Centennial Celebration Features E911 and 811 Project

(September 02, 2020) – As part of their 2020 centennial celebration, the Virginia Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects (APELSCIDLA) has released a book showcasing great work done by licensed professionals in the Commonwealth.

The works were each selected as a nod to a decade over the past 100 years. Balzer & Associates is honored to have our work with the Blue Hills Communication Center featured as one of the projects representing the 2020 decade. The one-story, 29,000 square foot center is a unique, mission critical facility that will now house the City of Roanoke’s Emergency 911 Department and Virginia 811 Utility Protection Services.

The Communications Center was a technologically demanding project, requiring specialty communications equipment and back-up power, along with exercise rooms, locker rooms, offices, conference, and training spaces. The new space provides for a better work environment with views of Read Mountain as well as room for growth. The facility sits on a 6.5-acre site. Balzer & Associates provided services including environmental, surveying, schematic design, civil engineering and site design, architectural, landscape architecture, structural engineering, construction documents, and construction administration.
