Century-old Stumpf Hotel Restoration in Downtown Richmond

RICHMOND, VA. (December 11, 2019) – Working in conjunction with Douglas Development Corporation, Balzer and Associates is excited to take part in the restoration of the former Stumpf Hotel at 728 E. Main Street, located in Downtown Richmond’s Central Business District.

The project includes the conversion of the seven-story hotel building, originally built in 1910, into 24 one-bedroom apartments, 2,300 square feet of ground-level commercial space, and a wrap-around, two-level parking deck.  The Stumpf Hotel building was designed by a popular Richmond architect of that time, the late Carl Ruehrmund, whose projects also include Commonwealth Senior Living, formerly known as the Shenandoah Apartments, and the Henrico County Court House.  Balzer and Associates is providing civil and structural engineering services for this project.
