Surveying Workshop with James Madison University

Surveying Workshop with James Madison University

HARRISONBURG, VA. (December 2, 2019)  –  Balzer and Associates appreciates Brad Striebig, Ph.D, Professor of Engineering at James Madison University (College of Integrated Science and Technology), for inviting us to hold a survey workshop for several of its engineering students.  The workshop was led by James Patton, Survey Department Head in Balzer and Associates’ Harrisonburg office and Land Surveyor, with the purpose of showing how field survey data can be used to create engineering designs.

The JMU engineering students are currently working on a Beaver Creek stream restoration project led by Dr. Striebig.  While on site at Beaver Creek, James showed the students how to use field survey equipment to establish elevations and map the stream’s profile.  This was a great opportunity for the students to see the important connections between surveying and engineering.
