Balzer Helps Peak Experiences Climb to New Heights

When Peak Experiences Richmond needed to convert an old indoor soccer field into a state-of-the-art rock climbing facility, they turned to Balzer and Associates, Inc. for architectural design and structural engineering. The new 21,000 square foot facility, located within the Sports Center of Richmond (SCOR) complex, features more than 15,000 square feet of climbing terrain, a yoga studio, a cardio-fitness area and a full retail shop. Dramatic “stand-on-top” boulders offer an exciting and panoramic view of the climbers below. The viewing area is connected to an adjacent bar, giving patrons the opportunity to relax with a cold drink while watching the activity or celebrating a successful climb.

More than 300 members visited Peak Experiences Richmond on opening day, April 19th, with many lining up before 6:00am to be the first on the wall. Jay Smith and Scott Powell, owners of Peak Experiences, expressed their gratitude to the Balzer team for its expert guidance, and Balzer architect Mike Bricker echoed the team spirit. “A lot of people contributed to this unique project, including climbing wall manufacturer Rockwerx and Richmond’s Century Construction Company,” Bricker said. “We all worked together to create a high energy facility that climbers will love, and we can tell by the enthusiastic response on Day One that we’ve hit the mark.”

Peak Experiences Richmond is located at 1375 Overbrook Road. To see photos of the building process and final result, visit https://www.peakexperiences.com/peak-richmond/.
