Balzer & Associates Offers Apprenticeship Program Opportunities

Currently, Balzer & Associates is offering the opportunity for adults and juniors and seniors in high school to participate in a Survey Technician Apprenticeship program.

An apprenticeship program combines on the job training and related instruction to result in learning a skilled trade. An apprenticeship program is supported by the federal government and the apprentice earns money while he is training. The current apprenticeship program offered through Balzer & Associates is sponsored by the Department of Labor and Industry.

The Survey Technician apprenticeship program is a two-year program that requires 4000 hours of on the job training and 144 hours of related instruction a year. If the apprentice joins the program as a junior or senior in high school many of these related instruction hours can be satisfied with high school curriculum.

Interested applicants may contact Human Resources at the Roanoke office at 540-772-9580. The apprenticeship program is available at the Roanoke, Richmond, Shenandoah Valley and New River Valley locations.

During my time as an intern in the Civil Engineering Department at Balzer and Associates I have had the opportunity to work on several projects in both the residential and commercial sectors. My internship experience has played a huge role in my professional development and has greatly improved my drafting and design abilities. I was given the opportunity to contribute to projects and participate in conceptual site plans, subdivision developments, grading applications, flood studies, site visits, client meetings and so much more. Most importantly, I had the opportunity to work with some incredible people in a company that provides a great culture and atmosphere for its employees.

Internships at Balzer & Associates

The Student Internship program at Balzer & Associates was developed with a purpose of providing opportunities for students to be exposed to real work experiences. As an employer, we are focused on developing our professionals by exposing them to all aspects of the land development process, from concept to construction. As a multidiscipline firm, our staff has the unique opportunity to interact, learn, and grow in a collaborative environment where knowledge is gained every day. Our diversity of work and discipline affords our professionals the opportunity to be involved with a wide variety of projects that provide a foundation on which a career can be built.

We are excited about the relationships we build with our interns and many return multiple terms as well as become full time employees following graduation. Our interns are our tomorrow.
